Phenolic resins for foams
Phenolic foam is used in diverse market areas such as thermal insulation, fresh flower support, mine and tunnel use and orthopedic foot impressions.
Phenolic foams differ in cell structure. Closed cells are necessary for thermal insulation foams, while fully open cells are necessary for flower foams. However, applications in mines and tunnels require extremely rapid formation of phenolic foams with associated fire-resistant properties.
The components typically used in the production of phenolic foams are a liquid phenolic resin of the resol-type, a surfactant, a blowing agent and an acid hardener.
Fenolit, under the brand name BOROFEN®, offers suitable resol-type liquid phenolic resins which are suitable for specific areas of phenolic foam production.
